The Daylight in "Warbaby" Colors:

This next set of photos is of the Daylight in it's 'Warbaby' paint scheme.  After a number of years of service and especially during World War II, many Daylights found themselves painted all black and many had their side skirting removed.  The 4449 was recently repainted to this scheme for 2000-2001 originally at the request of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad (BNSF) to pull one of their employee specials.  (Not exactly sure why, as the Daylight in her original orange and red colors matched their orange Heritage I & II paint scheme pretty well.)  To even complete the 'Warbaby' look, the Daylight caretakers even added some of the original style war-time light shrouds on the side marker lights and the front headlights.  These shrouds were intended to block the Daylight's light from shining up in the sky in the event (unlikely) it was seen by an enemy aircraft and thus making it subject to attack.
